DSCSA Master Data Management VirtualPilot & Pilot

In 2017 the Center published the findings of its DSCSA and Master Data Management Study. The Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) requires the transmission of trading partner and product master data for every shipment and possibly each package. The Study demonstrated how product, location and entity master data can be delivered via master data sharing mechanisms outside of the DSCSA data stream and accurately brought back together to provide the TI and TH needed for DSCSA purposes.

Meanwhile, the industry has begun to adopt Verifiable Credentials and other Self Sovereign Identity (SSI) components to establish trust between trading partners that have yet to establish their mutual Authorized Status with each other.

The Center’s Presentation Exchange eXploration (PEX) Open Study group has been exploring the DIF Presentation Exchange (PE) draft specification as a possible mechanism for negotiating the exchange of products, services or information. The PEX team has modeled the use of W3C Verifiable Credentials and the DIF PE spec to facilitate Product Master Data exchange.

The VirtualPilot and Pilot will:

  • Extend the use of the ATP Verifiable Credential to establish trust.

  • Use W3C standard Verifiable Credentials as a secure and trustworthy Product Master Data delivery container.

  • Demonstrate a Request/Response mechanism based on the DIF Presentation Exchange specification.

The VirtualPilot

The VirtualPilot will be a simulation of the supply chain demonstrating product master data exchange based on the DIF Presentation Exchange draft specification. Trust between master data exchanging Trading Partners will be established using the recently adopted ATP Verifiable Credential architecture (see ATP Pilot).

The Pilot

The Pilot will use the output (processes, rules, schemas, etc.) of the VirtualPilot as a blueprint to execute a pilot involving Trading Partners and Solution Providers.
